We would be flying in from Dublin and staying only two nights. The first day after travel would likely only be a half day. So we would have one full day and perhaps a few hours before traveling to Munich. My biggest concern in all of this is we are a party of three with three suitcases and a carryon. I would like to do this as inexpensively as possible. Have any of you navigated the trains/subways with all this luggage or will we need to spring for a cab? When I figured it all in (hotel 2 nights, airfare, transfer, then flights to our next destination- it seemed like it would be around 1200-1500 which seems like a lot. Any tips? I keep trying to talk myself out of it- But for my 14 year old son to experiencing the beauty of Paris through his own eyes is so tempting! Thanks in advance!!!!
What size are the suitcases? Are they 21 inches or larger. We are a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 kids). We were able to get around just fine on public transportation with one 21 inch suitcase/carry on each. If your suitcases are bigger that could be a hassle.
I would do it (go to Paris). A lot of people will say in all likelihood you’ll come back and you could see more of Paris on your next trip to Europe. However, as you know family travel is expensive. My goal is to take my kids to as many different places that I can. If you’re that close and you have the opportunity to take your son to Paris (and it sounds like you really want to) than do it.
For three people with luggage, I would spring for a cab from the airport to the accommodation. It is €50-55 from CDG or €30-35 from Orly.
I second what justtravel says. Considering the amount of money you're spending in total, is the crowded RER hassle to crowded metro with luggage probably up and down stairs worth saving 20 Euros on transportation into the city?
Fly if you can into Orly. Taking a cab from Orly for 3 people is CHEAPER than taking public transport. Public transport to Paris is about 37 Euro for 3 people. If you fly into CDG it is slightly more -- 31 Euro on the train versus 50/55 for cab. If you to decide to take the train make sure everyone is totally pick pocket proof -- no valuables in pockets or backpacks or the trip will be considerably more expensive.
