DDay tour from Paris

I know that the DDay beaches deserve more than an half day tour but unfortunately that is all we have. We know it will be a long day. My father in law was day 2 on Omaha Beach so it's very important that we go. Does anyone have a recommended tour company that makes a 1 day trip from Paris or should we take the train and a 1/2 day tour. We fly into Paris on a Wednesday and want to take the tour on Friday, September 25.

I took the Paris Vision tour from Paris. We left at 7:00 am and return around 8:00 pm. We had a great tour guide on the bus but didn't provide any tour while at the sites. Since I had studied the battle intensively, I was happy to be on my own. There were about 50 people on the bus and it was the most affordable of the tours that left from Paris. We had a great lunch at the Caen Peace Museum and visited Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the cemetery, Arromanches (Mulberry Harbor), and Juno Beach. There was plenty of stops for food and restrooms. It was very easy as you didn't have to worry about making connections. If money is not an issue, I am sure there are better tours, but this one is affordable. Hope that helps.

Overlord tours does half and full day tours that pick you up at the Bayeux train station, and are timed for arrival of the first train from Paris. They also return you to the train station timed for the train departures back to Paris. I have no experience with them yet, but will in a few weeks. They are generally highly recommended on these forums.

We did the one day tour, and if you want to spend ANY time on Omaha beach, I'd advise you to book a private minivan tour. The one day tour was great, saw the main highlights of the battlefront, but the main beaches most Americans want to see are quick drive-bys. I'm an avid WWII historian, and we're going back this summer specifically to spend more time in Normandy. The sheer size of the battlefield makes a one day tour unsatisfying.

Hi Renee, we did a half day tour with Normandy Sightseeing Tours in May 2014. We took the train to Bayeux, and the tour company picked us up at the station at 1 pm. We did a 5 hour tour of Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, and the American Cemetery. They dropped us off at the station at 6, we caught a 6:30 train and were back in Paris by 9:30 for dinner and to see the Eiffel Tower illuminated. Everything worked out perfectly. My friend said that it was his favorite day of the trip.
