On this trip we intend to visit the Versailles gardens on fountain days and into the evening for fireworks. Considering vicomte vaux v fountainbleu and would appreciate getting recommendations.
I prefer Vaux-le-Vicomte for its overall execution and interesting story about its owner, Fouquet and about those he hired to build it. Louis XIV used the same people to build Versailles, so it may provide an interesting contrast for you if you are already going to Versailles.
I love all three chateaux. They are all amazing and all are very worth visiting. Vaux-le-Vicomte will be the least crowded, then Fontainebleau, and most crowded will be Versailles. If choosing between Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau, Vaux-le-Vicomte wins hands down. Easy choice for me.
Fontainebleau if history really matters what is not the case I think, so go for Vaux-le-Vicomte, very enjoyable.
We loved Vaux le Vicomte and its gardens are much more impressive than Fontainebleau

The garden designer for Versailles was the same (Versailles is later).
