Day Trips from Paris after Rick Steves' Best of Europe 21 Day Tour in September

Going on Tour in September and wondering if I am being to ambitious with my plans after tour. Thinking of Checking out of hotel on Saturday and leaving my luggage there and taking train to Versailles for the day. Then I have two different options when I get back to Paris. I will pick up my luggage at Paris hotel and either #1 take train to airport hotel for Saturday and Sunday night and on Sunday visit Reims for the day, come back to Paris airport hotel and fly out on Monday. #2 After picking up luggage at Paris hotel take train to Reims and do some touring on Sunday and then Sunday evening take train to airport and spend night there and fly out on Monday.
I could also add an extra day and not fly out until Tuesday.
If it makes a difference I will be by myself. I would also appreciate ideas for hotels in Reims and CDG airport.
Thoughts?

Why would you not stay in a Paris hotel? Everything you are suggesting can be done from Paris. Furthermore, you have weeks of sightseeing available in Paris beyond what is done on the tour. The tour is an introduction that shows you how to get around on your own. You don't need to commute from the airport. The night before your departure, you could still stay in Paris and take a taxi that will get you there three hours before your flight...or stay at an airport hotel.

The hotel I'm staying at for the tour quoted me 265 euro a night to stay there post trip and as a single it is very steep when I'm just going to sleep in room. That is whey I was looking at other alternatives. I could spend two nights in Reims but I wasn't sure if I could get to airport on time for flight home on either Monday or Tuesday.

Why don’t you look on booking.com and see what’s available for a single for your dates. That is a busy time in Paris. You’ll want easy access to RER C for Versaille and Gare de l’Est for Reims. So anywhere along metro line 4/ RER B. Or near metro Vavin, Raspail, Denfert Rochereau, port d’Orleans, or RER Port Royal. I wouldn’t stay north of Gare de l’Est.

With the uncertainty that comes with any travel now (changed train / plane schedules, stikes, and such) we like to be close to the airport the night before our flight. You might consider spending one night in Reims and take a late afternoon train back and stay at the airport.

Just an option to consider.

Do you mind sharing what your end hotel is? Maybe we can give you some leads to hotels in the area although as Bets said Sept is a busy time in Paris although I usually wind up paying about what your hotel is quoting you...maybe 20E less.

I'll say that I would stay as long as you can in Paris after the tour so I'd go for a flight home on Tuesday. I prefer longer stays in one location so whether you move to Reims for 2 nights will be up to your travel style. For myself I'd stay all the extra nights in Paris but you may travel differently from me.

I did the 21 day tour and added TWO tours on to the end of it, lol (it was my retirement present to myself!). I added the Best of Paris, then had more time in Paris after that with a friend and then moved on to Village Italy. I DO recommend having one easy day after your tour just because it's a tiring but an exhilarating time.

I also went as a solo person and had a fabulous time.

Why not one of the other hotels in Paris instead of at the airport?

Hotel Beaugency is the hotel that Rick Steves' tour ends at. I guess I should look to see if there are cheaper locations close by.
