Day trips from Carcassonne solo traveller

Hi, am staying 6 nights in Carcassonne in May 2024 and want to book some day trips out to see some of the Knights Templar historical sites in the area (particularly La Couvertoirade, L'hospitalet du Larzac, Sainte Eulalie de Cernon, etc.) but I can't find any coach day or half-day trips around the area that aren't only private tours at ridiculously expensive prices from Carcassonne to a very few limited other places? Why can't I just get an ordinary coach tour for the day that anyone can book on? They all seem to be 200 or 300 euros per person and 'private tours'? Any advice greatly appreciated. (I can't hire a car as I don't have a credit card and prefer a coach tour anyway). Thank you! x

The places you want to visit are best from Montpellier not Carcassonne. You can take a direct bus from Montpellier to La Couvertoirade, L'hospitalet du Larzac and Sainte Eulalie de Cernon in less than 2h.

It's normal to pay so much for day trips. Carcassonne is too far from the places you want to see, which are located in Larzac region

It's like staying in NYC to visit Massachusetts.

However in NYC you could keep busy for 6 days, while in Carcassonne... after the third day, I don't see what you will be able to do

@MaryPat Thank you so much for your reply. Are these just regular buses from Montpelier, or are they guided bus trips would you know? I guess it would be better for me if I booked an overnighter in Montpelier if so, or look to see if the bus from Carcassonne crosses over the bus from Montpelier at all so I could perhaps intersect it and change there..... but many thanks for the heads up. Very much appreciated. Carcassonne seems very limited in its day trips away from the Cite :(
