I have used Context Travel many times with only remarkable experiences. The guides are remarkably well educated… eg, I toured the Italian Renaissance collection of the Louvre with an art historian whose day job was as a collection manager at the museum. Another huge difference from most companies is that their groups are small, limited to a maximum of six. This makes a real difference in moving effectively in crowded places and in tailoring the presentation to group interests. They are a little more expensive than some other companies, but the small price difference is worth it in my experience.

Rick's book suggests that www.pariscityvision.com offers both decent but uninspired minivan tours in English and mediocre, multi-lingual, full-sized bus tours. www.pariswebservices.com offers private chauffer-guides for small groups. If you take a train to your destination (such as Bayeux or Reims), you'll have more local tour/guide options.
