Day Trip To Tours From Paris - - - Maybe Overnight?

My wife and I were planning a day trip from Paris to Tours during the 2nd week in September. After reading an article in the Washington Post about the Loire region, we are thinking about spending the night in the area of Tours, renting a car, and exploring the region for two days.
Can anyone here recommend a nice hotel in the Tours area....not necessarily in the city itself, but maybe a bit to the east?

Jim,

We enjoyed our stay in Amboise when we toured the Loire Valley last month.
We stayed in this nice & peaceful, B&B: http://www.la-grange-amboise.com/
When we were there, we had the entire place to ourselves & we fell in love with Amboise, a small quaint town by the Loire River.
We considered staying at another of RS recommended hotel, Le Manoir les Minimes, but we opted for the B&B.

There are also several chateaux where you can stay, especially if you plan to have a car.
You may want to stay at least 2-3 nights, if you want to tour the valley & see some of the beautiful chateaux! ;-)

Enjoy your trip!

We've stayed in Amboise a couple times and would love to go back. It's a very walkable, charming town. Our last stay was at Le Manoir les Minimes, where I absolutely would book again.

I've stayed in a small chateau between Blois and Amboise, and I'd suggest the Amboise area as a lovely one for light chateau hunting.

I wouldn't stay in Blois unless it was a very nice place - too much traffic - nor in Tours for the same reason.

The whole area around there is very easy with a car, and very scenic, and more chateaux than you can shake a stick at. My favourite is Chenonceau - spent a whole day there and returned the next day. That may be a little overkill for some.

By the way, you can get to Chenonceau by train from Tours. The station is as close to the entry as most of the car park.
