Please recommend town or towns near Trier to visit for a day trip. Moselle area?

Luxembourg city is nearby. Or take the train to Moselkern and hike up to Burg Eltz. Bernkastel-Kues for the wine.

You are a 1h drive from a wonderful lake and working abbey, Maria Laach. You are a 2 hour drive from Aachen with its famous church and the jewel encrusted, golden bust of Charlemagne. You are a 30m drive from one of Germany's biggest beer exporter in Bitburg.
