Day trip from Paris to Saint Avold, Lorraine American Military Cemetery

Hello to the forum, this is my first time posting!
We are a family of 5 traveling to Paris, (includes two elderly parents) on our first visit in May.
Our primary objective is to visit the Saint Avold, Lorraine American Military Cemetery to pay respects to our fallen family member.
We are specifically interested in completing this site visit within a one full day turnaround.

I'm looking at the train options(Rail Europe) from Paris, est, to Metz, nord. (does this sound correct, any other closer train stop?) Which involves the relatively quickest direct train ride with no transfers (I think).

Any suggestions on how to get from Metz, to St. Avold Lorraine Cemetery and back to the train station? Bus, Taxi, rental car, etc....
So....my question to the community.....what is the BEST suggested way to do this?

Your input is appreciated

(getting nervous!) thanks

While you can check schedules on the dbahn site, you can't book tickets on a French train there. Better to use the sncf website for that. https://en.oui.sncf/en/

https://www.seat61.com This website gives excellent explanations of how European trains work. Look on this as a low risk adventure if you are new to trains.

No need to be nervous. Train travel in France is easy and economical, and changing trains is not difficult at all. Especially if it's a day trip and no luggage is involved. I'd definitely take the train over driving from Paris, especially if this is your first time in France. And you wouldn't have to lose time getting to and from the rental agency, filling the car with gas, and getting an International Driver Permit before leaving home.

St Avold has taxis, so taking the train, then a taxi to and from the cemetary should be uncomplicated. With an early start you could easily do this as a day trip.
