I will be in Paris for 6 days in the beginning of September this year. I'd like to know if anyone has advice or info about taking a day trip from Paris to Chartres! I really want to see the cathedral and the labyrinth.
Thanks!
That's a great day, jump on a train at Gare Montparnasse, if I recall correctly on Friday's the chairs are cleared so you can see/walk the labyrinth. If you would like to see Malcolm Miller and hear his talk about the glass, and the Cathedral (it's not a tour, per se) you can email him to confirm days and times. There's a good little cafe directly across from the Cathedral, a husband and wife operation-great fois gras appetizer.

Catherine: great way to spend a day. I think the trains are almost hourly throughout the day. And, it is a short 15-minute walk to the cathedral for the train station. Enjoy the visit.
If you want to take Malcolm Miller's tour, be sure to confirm in advance that he is doing it. I didn't and missed him by one day, sigh. If you can't find his contact info, contact the cathedral.
It's a very easy day trip and the Cathedral is well worth the visit. The stained glass is unbelievable.
Thank you all for your great information and advice! I read that the cathedral is doing renovation but should be done in July.
Thanks!
We went to Chartres last October..It's a great little town with the cathedral as it's centre..it's a short walk from the station to the cathedral.. When we went renovations were on..but it was still majestic..especially the stained glass windows.. The climb up the tower( tickets sold inside the cathedral) is also a good one, if u r not scared of confined small spiral stairs( lots of them)..the view is superb.. There are other smaller churches which are also good..there are lots of great cafes surrounding the cathedral, can recommend cafe serpente for their teas and service with a smile.. We stayed overnight to see the cathedral lit up and didn't regret it.
I am really excited about going there, I'm taking a day out of our Paris Itinerary to go to Chartres. Next time I think I'll stay a few days here. My kids are excited and love walking labyrinths too. We have local group called "Circles in the Sand" who draw labyrinths on the beach almost weekly at low tide. It's really fun to go and walk them.
