My wife and I will be traveling to France in mid April and we will hit Bordeaux first, The Provence Region And we will finish in Lyon France. Our first thought is to rent a car in Bordeaux and return it in Lyon. We are looking for a city to stay in the Provence Region, hotels in all three areas and other highlights. We plan to do this in 10-12 days.
Hi,
Your plan to do this with a car is a good one. You could return it in Avignon TGV to save yourselves the drive to Lyon, where you do not need a car, but it is up to you.
I would allocate 3 nights to Bordeaux: 1 full day without a car to visit Bordeaux, and 1 full day with a car to visit the surrounding wine region.
Then drive to Carcassonne, spend the night.
Then on to Provence for 4-5 nights. Uzès (technically Languedoc), Arles, St Rémy de Provence are good bases IMO.
And on to Lyon for the remainder, where you do not need a car.
Thank you so much for your reply! We will look at all these locations and take your suggestion on three nights in Bordeaux and 4 to 5 nights in the Provence region. This is exactly what we were looking for. If anyone else has any suggestions, please feel free to respond.
