I’ve booked a month-long stay at an AirBnB apartment in France, and I’m wondering about insurance for accidental damage in the apartment that we might cause (or at least be held responsible for). I know it’s a fairly low risk, and of course we will treat the apartment with care. But has anyone acquired insurance such as this? AirBnB doesn’t offer any insurance for guest renters, but VRBO does.
I've rented many a place over the last twenty odd years, three more this year for two weeks at a time. Mainly via local tourist sites, the odd VRBO (I gave up on Airbnb a long time ago). Any legitimate landlord will be covered by his own insurance for damage caused by fire, major plumbing issues etc.
Unless your nickname is Clumsy Colin, I wouldn't bother with additional insurance for accidental breakages and such. Besides, how do you know if a vase is worth 5 or 500 euros?
Give the property a quick inspection when you arrive. I've contacted landlords twice on the day of arrival, once for an oven caked with grease, the other for a stained rug which concealed burnmarks on the hardwoord flooring. In both cases the landlord was already aware of the problem.
