Hi, we plan to visit Leonardo Da Vinci's home in Amboise this year. Does anyone know if the passage way (tunnel) between the castle and Clos Luce is open? Any other 'must see' sites in Amboise? Thanks!
No it was not open when I was there in October. They have a figure dressed as DaVinci at the bottom of the stairs in the semi-darkness. Make sure you allow yourself time to spend in his contemplation garden (not sure that was the actual name) as well as the larger outdoor area where there are models of some of his ideas.
I enjoyed a short walk along the river as well as wandering thru the very large riverside market.
One interesting thing to look for are the trogs or cave homes carved out of the tufa cliffs. As you walk from town up to Clos Luce, look at the cliffs on the left behind the houses. Some are well kept, some are deserted. Very interesting!
Hi Pam, thanks for the info. Really looking forward to exploring Clos Luce, the castle and town. The cave homes sound fascinating, will check them out!
My memory of the Clos Luce was them playing the same piece of music over and over and over again. It was cool, but I suggest bringing headphones!
