Any suggestion of how to procure tickets for this event. The official site states no available tickets for December.
I think it is completely sold out for the entire run.
I saw someone over on TA who said they found tickets on Viator for $426 (or so) EACH. I did a search and found the "tour" listed and yes, it was that much for a 1.5 hour tour. Very ridiculous even with a tour guide thru the exhibition.
First, I'd not book anything on Viator which is a tour aggregator.
Second, I'd not pay this amount unless as some said on the TA thread you get to take a piece of art home with you OR you meet the artist, lol.
I saw the show on Day 2. I have to tell you I thought it was good but not wonderful. (Not nearly as good as the Vermeer Exhibit they did several years ago). I felt that the price was worth what I paid on the Louvre website which was 17E and included a visit to the rest of the Louvre collection and I'd not pay much more than that if you can find some kind of guided tour that has tickets. It is NOT, not, not worth $400+.
Thanks Pam! I agree that anything over 50 Euros is outrageous! I'm so disappointed to didn't know about it sooner.
I agree with Pam that it was interesting to see the breathe of his production, mainly drawings we'll never get to see again (probably), but not being a Renaissance scholar nor being able to read old Italian written backwards, I'm sure I lost a lot, particularly with the crowds. There are several publications in English for sale in the Louvre bookstore that cover the exhibit and are very good.
I'm sorry to see that someone has figured out how to exploit the penury of tickets to make a windfall.
there are tickets online for da Vinci exhibit on the Louvre website today. Many dates are still open!
Good tip. This looks new because I belong to Les Amis and never saw this special sign-up before. There must have been an outcry from members who couldn't get time slots, friends of mine among them.
Ashley's math is correct on the value of the membership. In addition, The Grand Palais and Luxembourg Museum exhibits are discounted. And you don't have to reserve time slots to visit the Louvre, but can go in and out freely. Bookstore and gift shop are 10% off. Finally, you can use an alternative entrance with shorter lines.
But one tip: getting your membership card in the mail to the US can take 4-6 weeks. If your trip begins before the card arrives, the membership office in the Pyramid can issue a duplicate.
All of a sudden there are loads of da Vinci tickets. I had purchased one a month ago and had to choose an unfavorable time in late January. I am in Paris now and purchased a ticket for Friday which includes evening hours. And there are many days for December and January. Perhaps cancellations due to the strike? Unless you like to walk 6 to 10 miles a day or pay very high transport costs, avoid Paris during a transit strike. The few buses that are running are packed to the gills, and the only transit lines open are not of much use. The RERs are running rarely/unpredictability. But at least it’s not raining! Or raining tourists! Suits me fine.
Purchased on Louvre web site at Euro 17 including all regular exhibits.
