d'Orsay Visit in May

When I went to Paris in Sept 2015 the d'Orsay was closed due to the workers being on strike to protest the proposal of the museum being open 7 days a week. So because of that I did not have a chance to visit. I will be headed back to Paris this week and wanted to know when would be a good time to visit. I am looking at Thursday when the museum is open late; however, I wanted to know if going first thing in the morning would also be a good time? I like to visit about 2-3 attractions during the morning/early afternoon so I can have the rest of the day to randomly explore. The only time I switch things up is when I want to avoid large crowds (ie, visiting the Louvre after 5 on Wed or Fri).

The most important thing is to have ticket in hand before visiting the Orsay so you can use the security line for ticket/pass holders.

It has never seemed 'too crowded' to me once inside and never empty either.

I was there last year in June. We went in the morning and although there were people around it didn't seem crowded. Depending on your interests I would plan your attack. I am most interested in the impressionists and was glad to have started on the top floor where they are mostly located. By the time I got down to the 1st floor, I was beginning to lag. It is marvelous and not to be missed. Enjoy. sue

I was at the D'Orsay 2 weeks ago. There was a short ticket line when I arrived, about 11am. Larger one when I left later in the afternoon. I had a museum pass and walked right in via a different door. Museum was not very crowded.

Oh, I feel for you. I was there in 2011, so looking forward to a nice long visit. It was closed for a strike for some other reason. All week long.
