D Day tour--transport from/to Cherbourg

Cruise is in Cherbourg for one day, a Sunday, and want to do a quality private D Day tour. Prices quoted from Cherbourg are high, probably in part because the tour guide has to do two roundtrips. Looking for a way to get from Cherbourg to Bayeux or nearby towns where the tours usually start. There doesn't seem to be a train until about 11:45 Sunday morning. Wondering about a taxi or limo service and maybe the train for the return. Anyone tried this or have other suggestions? Thanks.

What site were you using to look for train times? The official site: https://www.sncf.com/en showed earlier departure times. But you don't say what time your ship docks and departs. I

I wouldn't go this far for an 8-hour (?) cruise stop. It's over an hour by car, and you have to get back before the cast-off time. Is this a pier or tender stop? It's not worth the money for five hours of tour at most.

While I haven't visited them there are sights around Cherbourg that include German fortifications, including (I believe) a museum of the battle for Cherbourg. It seems a lot more efficient use of time to try to visit them. If you simply must visit D-day sights, the closest would be Utah BEach woith it's wonderful museum, and Sainte-Mère-Église—which was the heart of the 82nd AIrborne's operations. There is a wonderful Airborne Museum in Ste.-Mère, and the town celebrates the American paratrooper. I know it's not exact;y what you were asking about, but it seems the most feasible way to visit D-day sights with such limited time.
