D-Day sites day tour recommendations

We will be staying a few days in Le Havre this June and would be interested in doing a day tour of the Normandy D-Day sites. Would appreciate any recommendations.

Most tours depart from the center of Bayeux quite early in the AM. I liked my Overlord tour, and the company has a tour that departs just a bit later from the train station, which may be more convenient for you. Dale Booth also draws positive comments.

You may have difficulty getting tour slots because of the anniversary.

I'll second Bayeux Shuttle, but you need to hurry. June isn't far off and all the tour companies will book up fast.

A second vote for Dale Booth, but his tours book up pretty far in advance. We signed up for a two-day tour of the American Beaches and then scheduled flights, hotel reservations, etc.

Just a caution on the Booth tours. The price at this time of year whether there is one person or two or eight, is 650 euros PER DAY.

It is a private tour if that is important to you. Other tours have a shuttle of other tourists, but the prices are much lower.

Jan,

A few possibilities you could consider.....

  • as previously mentioned, Dale Booth is an outstanding guide! However he's very popular and also at the top of the price scale.
  • Overlord Tour seems to get consistently good reviews. They offer a variety of tours to suit just about any interest - https://www.overlordtour.com/?cn-reloaded=1
  • you could also consider Chris Emery especially if you have a car (I don't believe he provides transportation) - http://www.visitdday.com/

Especially in June, I would recommend booking your tour WELL in advance.

Normandy, especially Bayeux and environs, are gearing up for a big month with the 75th anniversary celebrations. We took a tour this week with www.NormandySightseeing.com and it was terrific. Leaves from Bayeux, as do most.

There is Daks over Normandy https://www.daksovernormandy.com/program/
There will be something like 30 C-47s (the same aircraft that did the D-Day paradrops) recreating the Normandy airdrop with a mass parachute drop on the 4th. It ought to be quite the spectacle. In fact several of the planes were actually there 75 years ago and all of the planes are at least 74 years old. If you are into that sort of thing it will probably never happen again. Daks refers the British name for the plane - The Dakota. Also, called the DC-3, Skytrain and Gooney Bird. I would love to be going but wasn't able to swing it.

Thanks everyone, this is very helpful. We won’t be there until a little later in June for Women’s World Cup match.

I might be wrong but since its 75th anniversary of D-Day this year, you will not likely find any guides available in June. They should've been booked months in advance.
