Layers and protection against wind and rain are key. You might end up with a nice day, but you should be prepared in case it is a rainy and/or windy day. Sturdy shoes too.

It's a wonderful experience.

Summer is over. Temps have dropped 20 degrees (Celsius) from last week, and the rains have started.

the most important thing is water resistant shoes -- I always travel with light weight hiking boots or shoes that I respray with water repellent before every trip. You will be walking on wet sand over dunes etc especially at Pointe du Hoc which is the most interesting beach visit IMHO. -- and definitely a windbreaker jacket which is rain resistant.

All good advice— but for the full D-Day experience here is your packing list: helmet, battle dress, belt, socks, underwear, boots, rifle, ammo, grenades, knife, spade, pack, ground sheet/poncho, field rations, water bottle, mess kit, shaving kit, first aid kit, rifle cleaning kit. And add something else heavy and unwieldy to your pack that is your share to carry of your unit’s other equipment (such as machine gun, mortar, field telephone, radio).

All good advice so far. I have been several times in May, June and September. It is rarely what I would consider "warm" (I live in New England), and it is often quite rainy. Keep in mind that "D-day" was postponed one day due to a big storm in the English Channel (it was first scheduled for June 5th). And afterwards they built the two artificial harbors to unload supplies, these were mostly wiped out by a gigantic, mid-June storm less than two weeks later. Be prepared.

We were in Normandy in Late April this year. Everyone said it was one of the coldest Springs they’d had in a long time.
Anyway, I would advise layers and include a rain jacket. It was windy and Cold, especially on the D-Day beaches so an umbrella was useless when it rained. I did not pack them but ended up purchasing a scarf, hat and gloves.. I did remember to pack a scarf and it came in handy!

Truly a wonderful experience whether rain or shine.
