Cruising the Seine

Hello! My husband, 18 year old son, and I will be spending 4 nights and almost 5 days in Paris. I really would like to cruise the Seine, but it doesn't need to be a dinner cruise. I have just ready many times that it is a wonderful thing to do, especially for us first timers. We have found different cruises and the river taxis in our research. I get a bit overwhelmed with so many choices. Would the latter work for us to experience cruising on the Seine? We will be there the 2nd week in August. We are also hoping to splurge with a meal at Jules Verne while seeing the Eiffel Tower. Thank you in advance!!!

There are several posts on this site with info on Seine River Cruises.

Most folks don't do the meal because the food is not very good and over priced.
We got on at the dock across the street and down the steps to the River at
the Eiffel Tower. Don't remember the name of the company (there are a bunch of them) But we wanted a night cruise to see the lights of Paris.

Bought our tickets out of the machine at the tour launch area and had to wait about 20 - 30 minutes for the next cruise - lasted an hour and we sat on the seats outside on the top deck - it was wonderful.
If you would like others' info - at the very top of the screen there is a SEARCH field and you can type in Seine River Cruise and it will search RS site and give you lots of other posts.

We were there during the attack in 2015 and we could not do a lit of the things we wanted to like Versailles. So while walking around one day we came across Les Bâteaux Mouches. It was relaxing and OPEN. Don't remember the price but it must not have been crazy expensive and we just walked on. Very relaxing.

the cruise is something you can do on a whim when the weather and the mood is right. I much prefer doing it at night. There is a dock at the Eiffel Tower on the left bank; there is a dock just upriver from Pont d'Alma on the right bank and there is a dock under Pont Neuf. Just take the one that is convenient. They are cheap and available. If the one you pick is full, there will be another boat along pretty soon.

Recommend you do it at night, when the monuments and the bridges are all illuminated.
It gets dark around 10 PM, so plan your trip accordingly.

Bateaux Mouches are HUGE tourist boats -- you'll find some people here who think they are too massive to be enjoyable, but I enjoy them just fine. Just know that it's going to be you and 200 or 300 of your closest friends. To me it's a wonderful way to see Paris (and evening is lovely with everything illuminated).

Thanks, everyone. More research shows this one being mentioned many times- Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf . We do plan to cruise in the evening!

We've take Bateaux Mouche during the day and Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf during the evening. Our feeling is that the latter is much, much better. Do go after dark as the lights of the city add a certain something one doesn't get during the day.

Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf, for sure! Buy tix online, they're good for any of their normal 1hr. cruises. Just show up when you want to go. The dock is in the island at Pont Neuf, and is rarely as crowded as the big boats down by Eiffel tower. All boats do the same circular tour, Eiffel tower on one side and around the top of Ille St. Louis on the other side. Highly recommend the evening cruises, they even let you bring your own adult beverages on board if you're so inclined. : )

Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf it is! I see we can save money by booking ahead, but I can't seem to change the website to English. I wonder if the tickets must be purchased for a particular cruise, or if there is a short timeline for them to be used.

I was happy with Vedettes du Pont Neuf. You can save a few euros per ticket by purchasing your ticket online. All the boats follow the same route. Pont Neuf has nice open seating on top for a good view.

I agree that Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf is a good way to go.

I enjoy doing the Seine cruises both by day and by night, as it's a different experience.

My problem with the Bateaux Mouches is the multilingual recorded narration. Not the narration itself, but the fact that when a language is on that people don't understand, they are all talking LOUDLY over it. The Vedettes de Pont Neuf (at least when I took it, which at this point was over 10 years ago) has a mix of live French and recorded English commentary, and people were much better behaved during the language that wasn't "theirs."
