Can be in Paris the first week in December. Do you know when Christ's Crown of Thorns is displayed for people to see
when they visit the Cathedral? Also, is the Cathedral restored after that horrific fire?
Thank you..diane
The cathedral is supposed to reopen in December 2024.
Thank you Judy!!
Will pass this trip but next year will schedule it!

Judy are you sure, I thought they were bound and determined to be open by the Olympics next summer
The reopening of Notre Dame de Paris is December 8, 2024. Currently, the crown is in a vault, while the relic holder is displayed as part of an exhibit called Le Trésor de Notre Dame at the Louvre.
It's being displayed at the Louvre until January...
The previous poster is mistaken. The crown is in a vault; it is not at the Louvre.
However, the metal relic holders are on display at the Louvre. I saw the exhibition at the Louvre last month.
The reopening of Notre Dame de Paris is December 8, 2024.
Certainly a more fitting date than the opening of the Olympics.
December 8 is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the major marian feasts in the Catholic church....very fitting for the reopening. It is a Holy Day of Obligation (at least in ther US, probably France also), when Catholics have the same requirement of attending mass as they do on Sunday. I am sure that the services on that day will be very moving.
For anyone traveling to Paris in the next few months who is interested in the restoration at Notre Dame, there is a triptych along the north (and likely the south, I didn't look) side of the cathedral describing the fire and its aftermath. Remarkably, the restoration started early in the morning after the fire. It's in English as well as French and is incredibly interesting. Well worth going to see.
There is also a viewing area at the rear of the cathedral on the roof of what looks to be a temporary office building for the restoration project.
There is a good aerial view of the Cathedral from the terrace of the Institute Monde Arabe nearby. It is free to access.
Dont forget other cathedrals and churches like Sacre Coeur, St Sulpice, St Germain de Pres and I love Saint Augustin.. many many to chose from! There are also some churches where monks and nuns sing like Eglise Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais! Seriously, Notre Dame is icononic but other places are holy and inspiring, whether Christian or not.
