We love Provence and have always wanted to explore the lower Rhone Valley, north of Avignon and east of Orange. We are considering on staying in Crillon Le Brave for a couple of nights. Has anyone stayed there and explored that area?

Not me personally, but different family members recently and simultaneously stayed at both hotels in the village : La Maison de Crillon and Hôtel Crillon Le Brave, and I got a good debrief.
Their verdict was that Maison de Crillon was far better value. Half the price at the time, less crowded, stunning pool (the one at the larger hotel is smaller and more crowded). Also, the fancy restaurant at Hotel Crillon le Brave was apparently so-so. I don't remember what the issues were.
Otherwise, this is a good base for the region. Close to Vaison, Mont Ventoux, Seguret, Venasque, Gordes & Sénanque, the Nesque river gorge (if you can brave the scary road) to name the main highlights I have in mind in the vicinity.
