We are wanting to get the most of our trip and need to drive from Bayeux to Bergerac to meet friends. Are we crazy to do this drive in a day. We would have more time to visit them and explore more of that area. Just not sure how crazy of a drive would be. Thoughts?
Going there and back in one day is crazy/impossible. But just going there, spending some time there, is not: the drive is totally feasible in one 8-hour day (including stops), if not very interesting. Two drivers recommended. Most of the drive is on fast, boring motorways and expressways, the final 60 mile stretch is on a two lane road through some pleasant countryside.
We would just be going... after a few days with friends we would be traveling on to northern Spain.
If you are headed to Northern Spain, then I'd even say it makes sense, you'll be quite close.
Just a point that comes back often on these forums: have you checked drop off fees if you rent a car in France and drop off in Spain? It might put a (small) spanners in the works.
Also, I stopped for a second and thought about trains, but it is really cumbersome for Bayeux to Bergerac as there aren't any trains to Bergerac at present. So yes, you can drive.
As a frequent vacationer to France , the max I will drive is 4 hours with rest stops. It is very fatiguing.
Pls keep that in mind if u decide to drive it. Perhaps u could have an overnight in betw as u will be beat, i think.
