Unless you really like crowds and spectacle, you probably want to visit Mont-St-Michel a different day than Friday, May 31. Up to 60,000 visitors (twice the number of a normal summer’s day) are expected that day as torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame all the way to the highest point of the Abbey, the foot of the archangel.
On that day, the shuttles will be reserved for those with mobility difficulties only. The celebrations will start at 10 am and run through midnight. The Abbey and the southern ramparts will be closed as of mid-day, but the central street up the Mont will remain accessible to the public.
