Côte d’Azur with a baby

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are planning to go to south of France end of June (this month) with our baby who will be almost 3 months old. We’ve always booked our trips very last minute, so no panic, LOL!

We were thinking of going for 16 days, which gives us two full weeks there without the travel days. Is that a good duration or should we aim for more or less?

We were thinking of renting a car and basing ourselves in Nice (possibly an Airbnb) and doing day trips around the coast, to avoid lugging our stuff around with the baby as much as possible. We want to keep our itinerary flexible based on our energy levels and how hot it will be… But we might visit Èze, Cap Ferrat, Antibes, St Tropez (any suggestions there?)

Is 14 nights in Nice excessive? Should we split our stay to choose 2 different places to stay? For example Provence? Or a different town on the Riviera ? We want to keep our expectations low and realistic for the trip since it’s our first time traveling with our baby, so we don’t want to have a stressful or jam packed itinerary. Any advice or suggestions?

You guys are awesome and are going to have a blast! I went through Nice with a baby (albeit ten years ago) and we had a great time. We got tons of attention as there are not many babies in France. I found it no more or less stressful than being at home with a baby. I thought of it as you have all the same responsibilities but a beautiful setting! I would say 14 days may be too long in one spot. Personal preference of course but I like the idea of breaking it up into two or three sections. If I recall it was easy to get around on the trains. Safe travels!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! We were doubting our choice to travel now, but as you said, we're taking care of the baby anyway, so might as well have a beautiful setting to enjoy :-).

We were mostly stressed about the heat with a newborn, since they won't swim and are especially sensitive to the heat and the sun. Also, our baby just started giving us long stretches at night, so we are nervous about messing up their sleep with the 6-hour difference, but I guess it will never be easy with the time change even when the baby gets older!

Do you have any suggestions for another place to stay? We may do one week in Nice, and one week in a different town or area completely. I thought of Provence, but not sure it's the right place with a baby? And perhaps in that case it's better to return from Marseille airport? We're still trying to decide. I appreciate your feedback!
