Costco Travel's "Additional Driver Included" Policy in France

I've had great success renting cars in France through Costco Travel and have never been charged for an additional driver. That's a nice savings!

But it's always been a question mark until I actually pick up the car whether the pick-up Enterprise location will charge or not. They haven't!

Has anyone had recent experience renting from Enterprise (or Alamo) through Costco regarding the "additional driver" fee?

Thank you all.

I always rent through Costco Travel EXCEPT when I'm renting in Europe, because I can't figure out how to request an automatic when i go through Costco. What's your secret? So I went directly through Enterprise which allowed me to request an automatic when I rented in France two years ago. I don't think we paid an additional driver fee.

I considered renting from Costco . but as I have an Avis account , I chose that option . My reasoning was that with the Avis account I receive a skip the counter service . No waiting on line to pick up the car , just go to the parking area and drive away . ( This is for a pickup at EWR to go home after a return from Europe in November 2026 )

I rented through Enterprise in Caen last Sept. Additional driver was included without any question. There was also no difficulties in choosing an automatic through the Costco travel website.

We go through Costco when we go to a location it serves. The free additional driver is a benefit that would normally cost €10 a day. The free additional driver is also specified in the paperwork you receive that contains both the Costco and Enterprise/Alamo confirmation numbers. In the extremely unlikely event you did get charged, I’m more than confident Costco would reimburse you. That’s just the way Costco operates.

Costco does not always offer automatic transmission vehicles, except for the UK, and to my knowledge there’s no way to request one in its site. For me it isn’t an issue. If one isn’t available I’ll drive a manual. On my 2024 Spain trip when I picked up the rental I could have opted for an automatic for an additional €15 a day. I kept the manual. For my upcoming Spain trip, Costco listed automatics for the same price as a manual, so I opted for it.

@kj - one selects the zero deductible coverage at the counter when picking up the rental.

Same here. We originally tried to book through Costco, but saw no ability to choose automatic. Share your secret(s)! We also did not see the ability to include full damage (zero excess) coverage. I wanted the ability to 'walk away' from all scratches - without the need to submit proper paperwork and hope our credit insurance would eventually refund. I just tried again. The only option shown was automatic - unless I chose an electric car.

kj I have had good success reserving the old fashioned way, over the telephone, when the rather clunky Costco interface made it impossible to reserve the car or location I wanted.

@jaimeelsabio Unfortunately, Costco Travel's "Additional Driver Included" offer is limited to "participating locations." The Costco Travel Enterprise rep the other day checked for me and reported that the Enterprise location in Rennes charges 13 Euro per day per extra driver. That is contrary to every other time I've ever rented thru Costco.

My hunch is the rep didn't call the location. And I suspect the rep is wrong and that I will not be charged.
