Corsica, Figari and Porto Vecchio

I will be arriving at Figari airport alone toward the end of June.
I need to get to Porto Vecchio and then return to the airport a week later.
I would also like to explore the area and will be staying at an area slightly in land for three nights.
My flight times do not work in with the bus timetable from Figari to P. V. I have looked online and it looks like I may pay 50 euro one way for a taxi.
I am from NZ and have not driven in Europe before. I am looking to rent a car and have some concern about driving in Europe for the first time.
Would you recommend that I rent a car? Any advice?

I think you need to rent a car, but if you have never driven in Europe before then Corsica's roads could be a baptism by fire, as they are very narrow. Also in the center of the island in the mountains, they are narrow with cliffs on one side and sheer drops on the other, but they views are out of this world! We absolutely adored Corsica.

I've driven in Corsica and, though mountainous in the interior, the road system is very good. Yes, driving on secondary roads is a bit more stressful because they can be quite curvy, taking normal care should not make it problematic. Europcar has an office at Figari Airport. You might want to check rates from them as well as from AutoEurope, a consolidator that usually will have lower prices from the same rental company.

If you do rent a car and want to go exploring, don't miss Bonifacio, about 40 minutes south of Porto Vecchio. Great town to visit, take one of the cruises that explores the calanques and chalk white cliffs.
