Thank you. I am confident we could easily enjoy 2 or 3 weeks there. My plan would be to rent a car and work our way around the island, sticking mostly to (or near) the coast when possible (I know the interior is mountainous and also quite charming - I also know the roads are not for high-speed, direct travel, that's OK, I'll be going to enjoy the scenery). A little light hiking once in a while but not a major focus on hiking.
We visited Sardinia a few years back, spending around 2.5 weeks there in mid-September. We rented a car, and went all the way around the island. We loved it, and vowed to come back in the future and visit Corsica (which looks just as lovely, and roughly the same size). In mid-September, the sea (around Sardinia) was pleasant, starting to get a little cool by the end of the trip, but still tolerable.
We would like to think that Corsica would provide a lot of what we loved about Sardinia -- but naturally, with a French influence rather than Italian (also, Corsica's own unique culture, of course; I know they are fiercely independent). We love scenery, natural beauty, history, quaint little towns, the food, the culture, and yes, some beach or rocky ocean-front time (I am not one who wants to lay on a beach for hours soaking up the sun, but a swim now and then in an uncrowded spot is always welcome).
What's the ideal time to go, when most family's kids are back in school, and the high-season crowds thin out? I'm assuming once you get into September, the crowds diminish pretty quickly....true? I often try to schedule a trip right after the high season ends and tourism is beginning winding down. Would that be early-, mid- or late- September?
Thanks for the insights!
