Coordinating me from Paris to Avignon and my husband from CDG to Avignon on the same TGV.

My husband and I want to meet up to take a train to Avignon. He is arriving at CDG at 7:45am at CDG and I will be leaving from Paris as I am staying there beforehand. Is there a Gare du Lyon train that goes through CDG to Avignon? Is there a Gare du Lyon train that goes through Lyon to Avignon as well as one that goes from CDG through Lyon (or another connecting city) so that we could meet up there? Or.... is it best for me to meet him at CDG and go together from there?
Thanks for the help

Hi,
You have three options:
- meet at CDG, and take the same train from there (no earlier than 10.45 am to allow for disembarking, immigration, delays)
- meet at Gare de Lyon, and take the same train from there (no earlier than 11.45 am to allow for transportation from CDG to Gare de Lyon by taxi or RER)
- take separate trains and meet in Avignon.

The answers to your other questions is No - there is no convenient midway point.

You can take the TGV high speed train from Gare de Lyon to Avignon. There are at least 3 ways to get from CDG to Gare de Lyon: taxi, RER trains or bus. There may be other ways to go from CDG to Avignon, but I'd think meeting up at Gare de Lyon and traveling together would be preferable.

Good luck -- odds are though that what you want will not be possible. The trains from CDG do not meet up with the trains from Paris unless by chance he takes a train that requires a connection most likely Lyon Part Dieu or Marne la Valle and he connects to the train you are on for your trip. I agree with other responders that you have 3 realistic options (a) meet your husband in Avignon, (b) meet him at CDG, or (c) meet him at Gare de Lyon. If you want to try to meet up, then you need to go through the train schedules and compare the train numbers for the trains and see if one of the connecting trains for his trip from CDG is connecting to a train from Paris.

Even if you could meet up in Lyon, with one of you switching trains, you wouldn’t have seats together and may not be in the same train car. Best to start off together or meet at the destination.

Lyon Part Dieu is a terrible station to meet up at, it is perpetually busy with little seating. Don't attempt that. Plus, both you and your husband will waste a lot of time in train connections.

I always like to warn people about how crowded Lyon Part Dieu can be. It's not a station you want to need to rush through, especially if you are traveling with luggage.

I agree that meeting up in Lyon may not be so great. That is quite a busy train station. Are you able to just meet him at CDG?

Just in case it's not clear from all these answers: There are NO TGV trains from deGaulle to Paris. The TGV - Avignon trains do not stop in Paris and the Paris - Avignon trains do not stop at deGaulle.

That is why your choices are the ones described by others.

Just over a week ago I took the train from Lyon to Paris, stayed the night then met my husband at CDG to take the train from Paris gare de Lyon to Marseille. Yes it was more expensive and ridiculous backtracking but I found him and we were able to catch the TGV I had hoped to catch. I did it this way also because I know how hard jetlag is on him. The other nice bonus was that both our Verizon international plans worked!

That's some true love right there ;-)! You'd have to pay me to do the same. Glad it worked out
