cooling off in Arles, etc...

Hello!

A friend and I will be in Arles this Thursday and Friday - forecast on Friday is 93 degrees. Whew that is hot!

Wondering any ideas for cooling off? Thought maybe day trip to Pont du Gard, looks like you can splash around there in the river? Any other places for water-type activities?

Thanks!
Kim

What forecast are you looking at? Meteo France (http://www.meteofrance.com/previsions-meteo-france/arles/13200) projects a high Friday of 31 degrees C, or about 88 degrees F. Hot, but not exceptionally so for that location at that time. It also appears the wind will be gusty, up to 40 km/hr (about 25 mph), so that should help with cooling.

Of course, that's almost a week in the future and it's not as if weather forecasters are ever wrong...

True, K, but Kim is from San Francisco where they wear wooly jumpers, scarfs, and parka jackets in mid summer. Just ask Mark Twain....

Correct!!! Coming from 55-65 to 88-93 is hot for us!!! 😀

We travel to Florida often in summer but they have beaches, pools and air conditioning!

And yes some breeze will be helpful, good point!

Staying in an air-conditioned hotel will help.
Don't go in the sun from 12 to 4 PM.
You can rent canoes and kayaks at Pont du Gard.

I think Pont du Gard is a great idea!

Uhm, I'm in SF now and it's warm. People in shorts. We've had a lot of very warm weather, mid high 80s, for at least 6 wks... just sayin'...
Depends on where in SF though, there's like 20 micro-climates. Marina can be 15* or more higher than the Avenues.

Nigel, I've spent some time in Daly City. It depends on what you would consider "hot" !!! :) I agree-bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the river beneath Pont du Gard. And the view can't be beat!

In addition to being cool and fun to splash around under the bridge it is a simply fabulous always memorable sight; just one of the most amazing views in Europe. And I'm with you, it is 90 right now in Chicago and I am exhausted with heat when we leave the apartment. Traveling in the high 80s and 90s F is miserable.

93 in Provence is not that hot. When we were there it topped 100 every day. It is a dry heat

Stes Marie is pretty fun for a day trip and has a great market. The Cote du Rhone driving tour is nice because it is in your car with stops at air conditioned wineries.

The ochre cliffs walk in Roussillon is mostly in the shade.

Pont du Gard has water but not very much shade when on land.

OK thanks! We may try for Pont du Gard... it was on the possibility list anyway!

It never gets in the 80s at my house in SF.... we live way in the outer sunset about 8 blocks from the beach. :)
