We will be in France for 3 weeks in May. We fly in to Toulouse and out of Charles-de-Gaulle.
We pick up the car in Toulouse.
We need to decide if (1) we will drive our car all the way to the airport before our flight...which I hear might be more expensive...
OR
(2) Choose one of the smaller towns near Paris (Vernon? Chartres? Versailles?Chantilly?) for our last night...ditch the car there...and then take a train over to the airport the morning we fly?
We are open to suggestions!
It used to be about 35€. You can price it out using Compeigne or Beauvais as alternatives. Your transportation to the airport will cost more.
I would drop at the airport but if you do drop it elsewhere, make it Paris -- getting from a small town to the airport is an expensive hassle -- it is easy from Paris.
If you are coming in late the night before, get dinner on the road and stay AT the airport dropping the car that evening.
If you are coming in early the day before drop it in Paris ad spent the evening in Paris and get a cab or take the train in the morning.
The drop off fees are likely to be less than the cost of the journey from where you drop the car off to the airport.
There is an airport pickup fee, but I have never heard of an airport drop off fee. Hertz and Avis reliably charge a one way fee but if you are paying a one way fee, it will make little difference where you drop the car, assuming it is not Toulouse.
If you have an early morning flight, drop the car off at CDG, there are signs everywhere in English showing you the various locations, and stay the night at CDG. The Sheraton is at terminal 2 but there are many hotels on the airport, all available using the free train shuttle CDGVal. Any hotel along the CDGVal train line will allow you to be at any airline check in desk within 15 to 20 minutes.
Thanks for all the information, folks!
