My daughter and SIL will be staying in Tours for about 6 weeks May 27-July 11. My granddaughter is 4. While SIL working, daughter would like to find companions of about the age of the granddaughter - play groups, etc, and if they were French that would be great.. How might she go about doing that?
The hurdle is that in France 4 year olds are already in school all day. Free public school starts at age three, sometimes 2.5 if there’s room. The school year ends on July 4 or 5; local camps begin July 6th. Your family should contact the city hall to see what’s available.
However, your grandchild will probably be able to attend school, but that is up to the city hall and school to decide. They would tell you what paperwork to bring.
Both of my sons attended school in France, including one visiting his French grandparents at the end of the US school year. He attended the village primary school.
