I understand that there may soon be an option for directly, charging one’s credit card or ATM card on the metro by simply swiping the card, eliminating the extra step of using an easy card. My guess is it would work like transport in London. Has anyone else for these excellent rumors?

Having read the article referenced above, it won’t be system wide, including RER, until 2030. They’re rolling out the new validators incrementally based on the lines tourists use the most. In addition, tapping will be more expensive. As a result, a Navigo Easy card may still be the way to go. Here’s some relevant info from the article:
From June 30, payment terminals will be installed at the exit of Orly airport on line 14, "in order to allow travelers to regularize their journey directly by credit card," explains IDFM.
On July 8, the Montmartre funicular will also be equipped.
Then the device will gradually arrive in the subway, prioritizing the lines most used by tourists:
July 2027: line 1;
End of 2027: lines 4 and 14;
End of 2028: lines 7 and 12;
by 2030: generalization to the entire railway network, including RER and Transilien
I appreciate now that you can use the mobile app. It is quite handy when I make it down to the metro station and realize I left my card in my pants pocket in the laundry.
A number of bus lines have this already. You can use a credit card in lieu of ticking. Costs hare higher, 2.55€ vs. 2.05€, but convenience is the advantage.
