Construction around Eiffel Tower?

I've been reading about some construction around the Eiffel Tower and 7th Arr. Has anyone experienced it? Does it ruin the 7th arr. experience? Will it be done by May 2019? If anyone knows anything, I would appreciate knowing about it. I was planning on staying in the 7th, but am wondering if there will be problems in May.

The construction is very localized -- right around the base of the tower. Your hotel and the 7th will be unaffected. Don't change your plans over it. I'm not sure when they'll be finished. It's been underway during our last two trips, so sooner or later it has to end.

They are installing security barriers all around the base of the tower. It is going to be very thick plexiglass with secure entrances and exits. It's was kind of a mess this summer and it seemed like they weren't maintaining the grass on the Champs de Mars either...I'm assuming that once the construction is finished they will spiff it up again but this summer (July - mid August) it was a dust bowl.
It is limited to the base of the tower though so the 7th is unaffected.

Here is the Eiffel Tower website page that explains what is being done. It makes it sound like it has been completed but as of early August it was still a construction site. You'll have to Google to find out if it's done or not. I'm sure someone on this forum has been there more recently.

As bljewell and Anita said, it’s around the base, but it’s a very wide area around the base and extremely time-consuming to walk around it from the Champs de Mars area up to Trocadero.

Just saw this on our trip the 10 days ago. I was very disappointed with the area around the Eiffel Tower, Champ de Mars was torn up, still construction trailers etc. around.

We went over to Trocadero - but it was a long walk.

The thing to note is that it makes access a real pain in the neck. We used to just walk over from Trocadero and right under the Tower or vice versa. Now you have to go on a long detour to get to the entrance to the Tower perimeter security. It is ugly and unpleasant. Even when it is finished it is going to be much less pleasant than it was and more convoluted and take more time. Alas enhanced security has made many events and places in Paris much less enjoyable to visit. Versailles is another. The Montmartre Vendage has been IMHO ruined by it.

Janet, It must be a nightmare for the Fête de Vendanges to provide security and I can see your point that it would ruin it.

Was a bit of a mess when we were there in June. We stayed in the 7th and all was fine. Just the area under the tower was a little tricky to navigate. Should be better when you are there.

We were just there a few hours ago . Some disarray like any other building site , but not a major issue . The plexiglass surround is fairly innocuous , and once completed will not be a visual impediment . As far as circumventing the base between the tower and access to Trocadero , we did not find that to be a major issue . Janet , We ventured up to Buttes Chaumont the other day on your recommendation , it was beautiful . The only downside was heavy wind and very cold temperatures . It was charming , and we will go back next visit , thanks !

Based on your info steven, sounds like the construction area around the Eiffel Tower has improved significantly since June when I was there, and hopefully means that the end of the construction is near.
