Conciergerie - worth seeing?

I'm trying to organize a day that includes visits to Nortre Dame and Saint Chapelle in the morning before adventuring in other parts of Paris. I don't know much about the Conciergerie - is it worth the time to include that in a visit? I can't get a good sense of it from the travel forum, website, etc... Thanks!

I guess it depends on how interested you are in Marie Antoinette and /or the revolution. Because there is some historical information about that. And it is an interesting building. However if this were my first, second, maybe even third trip I would probably not spend the time seeing it.

I agree that it very much depends on your degree of interest in the last days of the French Monarchy, and the Revolution. We found it interesting, but are very much interested in French history (but didn't see it until our 3rd visit). If you look at the At a Glance page for Paris in the Explore Europe section you'll note that the Conciergerie doesnt even make the list.

It’s one of those building that is more impressive from outside than inside. Outside it’s stunning, the inside is pretty bare. Unless you’re going for an extended period, I would skip it.

If you’re interested in history at all, this is a great site- so many places associated with the French Revolution are no longer standing (eg the Bastille) but here you can really see where history happened. I went on my very first visit to Paris and again more recently and they had updated quite a lot- it’s a fascinating site. For me one of the top Paris sites.

It’s definitely worth seeing and can be a combo ticket with St. Chapelle. Many years ago, I only went because of the combo tix … you really can take as much or little time as you want. Now I go if at all possible time wise. I’m not so much a French Revolution aficionado, but this is French history that we are more taught… more so than Versailles. The new visual overlays in place in 2025 are fantastic. A must if traveling with kids.
