concerts at Sainte-Chapelle

We're considering going to a concert at Sainte Chapelle this summer. I've just read that the acoustics are pretty terrible, but I've only seen that comment from one person. Can anyone who's been there recently comment on whether the acoustics interfered with their enjoying the music?

I'd also like to know if there is a posting anywhere of what concert would be presented on any given date. The only site I know of to buy tickets is classictic.com, and they do not give any information about the concert itself, just a date and a price.

Thanks

We went to a Vivaldi concert there last July and it was wonderful-would definitely want to do it again if we were in Paris.

We went to a concert at St. Chapple while on a Steves tour. As I remeber, it was Vivaldi Four Seasons and was marvelous. The acoustics were fine, and the setting unbelievable. We purchased tickets the afternoon of the concert with no problem. Hank, Novato, Ca

Bob, I see what you mean. I went through it and it appears there are details for shows through the end of June only. I'm sure this will update if you give it some time, it shouldn't be an issue to secure tickets, just keep an eye on the date you want. It's a really friendly bunch of people who work the shows. Note that you can show your ticket confirmation on your smartphone at the door so you don't need to print it and bring with you.

I am not an expert on acoustics but I thought they were terrific in there. I went to the Vivaldi performance in 2014 when there was scaffold on the inside and the lead violinist at one point kind of danced down the center aisle playing away and actually went BEHIND the scaffold. It sounded to me as if he was still playing from the front of the church it was that good.

I encourage you to go. As others indicate the venue is fabulous.

You can get tickets there, usually there is a sign outside the door you enter for the security screening pointing to a restaurant across the street where tickets can be purchased on the day of the concert.

Since this is the most beautiful concert venue you will ever be in, worrying about acoustics is a bit of a fools errand. These are generally maximum of 8 musicians, and it is chamber music, written from the get go for small rooms. I'd say maybe 250 people is the maximum the place will hold.
Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" is ever popular, and I'd guess is about every other concert. The others are usually Bach violin concertante's. The musicianship is excellent and you can gaze at the stained glass windows to your heart's content while listening. I bought my tickets from the brasserie across the street.

Thanks everyone. That's what I was hoping to hear. I've been dying to go.
I don't get specifics by clicking on dates this summer. Maybe that's because it's so many months away, so I'll see if it updates as we get closer. But from what you've all said, it won't really matter.
Great news. Thanks.

Oh, you won't be disappointed!! We went to the Vivaldi Four Seasons concert and sat pretty far in the back and the sound was beautiful. I truly had goosebumps and got teary eyed! It's absolutely magical!

We are going back this April. I started looking for tickets on the website probably around Nov/Dec and they weren't available yet, but now they are, so I'm sure tickets for this summer will be available within the next few months.

We loved the concert we attended. We reserved tickets ahead, but as this is not a concert venue, they set up chairs as demand dictates. We were towards the front, but I don't think that matters. I think you might have a better view of the whole room being a little farther back.

Those of you who bought your tickets in advance, did you buy from classictic.com?

We enjoyed a concert at St Chapelle also--no problem with acoustics. The music was Bach and we bought tics the afternoon of the concert at a kiosk next to SC. There were about 75 people attending--folding chairs--there are no pews. Go and enjoy!

It is a chamber concert in a tiny chamber -- accoustics are just not an issue. It is nice to go to the earlier concert to be sure of having some sun through the windows at least part of the time. It is a stunning venue.

Yes, we bought our tickets through classictic.com. We didn't have any problem with them. We did have to go during the day and exchange our receipt for a ticket at the venue. That was in 2011, so things may have changed.

We went to a St. Chapelle concert about two years ago. The acoustics were fine and you get a great view of the lovely stained glass windows while waiting. We bought our tickets from a tobacco shop directly across the street from the entrance to St. Chapelle for several euros less than what they cost online. However, you do risk not getting a ticket if they are sold out. I believe that they had a Vivaldi and Mozart piece. Overall performance was fine, except they were probably playing the pieces at 120% speed. If you look at the schedule of the performers, they often have another concert at another church later that evening. So they are under some time pressure to play it fast and get out to their next venue.
