We ordered tickets online for this concert and an upgrade was offered, to include a glass of champagne or wine and tapas. Just know that as soon as you buy this option, you are told that these refreshments are offered elsewhere not at the concert. We had to walk far east on the right bank to cram into a noisy bar to get our wine and tapas. The concert was beautiful and memorable, the wine and tapas—not.
I am currently in Paris and went to that concert last night. It was glorious! Glad I passed on the tapas and champagne. Thanks for the report Becky.
LOL what a scam -- I love it when web sites don't provide the most obvious information until you commit.
How many individuals were playing at this concert? Was it a full orchestra or a quartet/quintet/chamber ensemble?
A full orchestra would never fit inside the chapel. Normally string quartets.
This link suggests they have “full orchestra performances.” I didn’t mean a late Romantic Mahler or Strauss performance. To my knowledge, they do mostly baroque at St Chapelle. A full Baroque orchestra isn’t that large.
The reason I ask is because I don’t particularly care for string reductions of pieces scored for larger ensembles.
Hikkifan1986, the performance I saw was Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. There were four violins, a cello and a piano. I am not knowledgeable about classical music but I enjoyed it. I think you are paying for the venue as much as the performance.
