Concerned about safety in St Denis France

We just booked an awesome Airbnb in St Denis only to realize after that it’s not the best area because of crime. We want to see Paris at night and wondering if we should rethink that because of taking the Metro and walking home late at night. Does anyone have any evening situations where they were walking around at night in St Denis and if so, any advise?? Thanks in advance.

In order to get help with your question you should be more specific. There's the Blvd. Saint Denis, the rue Faubourg St. Denis, Porte Saint Denis all within Paris and suburban Seine-Saint-Denis which is the other side of the Peripherique without the Paris postal code of 75

If rue Saint-Denis, you're inside Paris in the second arrondissement. You might get different views on this location. I suspect that the crime you referred to is for the suburb Saint-Denis. The location you mention is in a gentrifying area, close in with plenty of transportation opportunities. Lots of cafe life, all of that. As far as night traffic goes. you won't be alone on the street. You might want to consider noise, the legality of the apartment, AC if you're coming for a July or August visit.

Yes, the current crime concerns are most likely to be about the suburb St Denis.

The rue St Denis has a traditional reputation, even in recent years, as a centre for the commercial sex industry. Don't know if it's changed with the gentrification, but you might see some sleazy businesses and/or streetwalkers.

That’s good to know. I would rather have a little sleeze than a lot of crime. Lol. I appreciate the feedback!

Rue Faubourg St Denis is in the 10th district, right close to Gare du Nord where I stay.

2nd ar. will be fine. I wouldn't want to stay out in the suburb St. Denis. The long commute into Paris center would be really inconvenient.
