Combining Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau in a Single Day-Trip From Paris?

We are considering a day-trip from Paris to both Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau in a single day in mid-April. Have you combined these two destinations in a single day? If you've done both in a single day, I'd especially appreciate hearing your comments.

Since we don't have time for two separate day-trips, we either combine them or choose just one? Recommendations?

Hi. I am thinking about doing the same thing when I am in Paris this December. I am going to purchase a one day tour through Viatour. They are a third party that sells tours for other companies.

They sell a one day tour that goes to both places. It is basically a bus that goes to each place and looks like it spends about three hours at each.it starts and ends in Paris.

You can get get yo them on your own, but I liked this because I can see both.

If you like I can give you feedback when I return.

Barbara, thank you. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Ideally, what we're looking for is a tour company that will pick us up at our hotel in Paris, and drive us to the first destination in a car or van, and then on to the next destination, and then drive us back to our hotel at the end of our day.

Hi Robert:

There is also an option to hire a car for the day that will do what you want. However it is pricey. But if you have a large group it might be worth it. Also check with your hotel. They might have options as well.

I've done exactly the day-trip you're thinking about twice in the past. Both times it was extremely easy and well worth the effort. I just followed RS' guidance in the Paris book and took the train to Melun (taxi to Vaux-le-Vicomte) and train to Fontainebleau. Both times there were taxis at the train station waiting and when you leave Vaux-le-Vicomte through the gift shop, the people that work there are happy to call a taxi for your return to the train station. From the Fontainebleau station you can take a bus to and from the chateau as RS says. RS also mentions a tour company that does the same day-trip, but I don't have any first-hand info about that. It was definitely worth it doing both in a day.

Bill, thanks for the information. Doing both, how long was your day? Approximately what time did you leave your hotel, and what time did you get back there?

Thanks again,
Rick

It was a pretty full day. I would say we left Paris by 9:00 at the latest and got back around 7ish?

I have booked the Paris Vision tour for these two chateaux. They have both a guided tour, and a transportation and ticket only tour. I will be going in September, so don't have personal experience yet.
