Combined RER/Metro Day Passes in Paris?

Hi All

Does the Paris RER/Metro subway system have a day pass similar to the 1-6 Zone Day Travelcards that the London Tube system has? I will be flying into Charles de Gaulle Airport later this month and will be spending a two days in Paris. I'd ideally like to buy a day pass that I can first use on the RER to go from CDG into Paris and then continue to use for the rest of the day on the Paris Metro/Bus system. All the websites that I've looked at are not clear on this point so I am not sure if I have to purchase one ticket to take the RER into Paris and then purchase a carnet of tickets to use on the Metro for the rest of the day. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks and best regards.

Note that the Mobilis Pass specifically excludes the RER to or from the airports. (If you buy the correct number of zones, it is good on all other RER trains, such as to Disneyland Paris). You can get in from the airport another way (including using the bus to the metro), or you could just buy the RER from the airport to the city as a separate ticket, then buy a Mobilis just for Paris itself (zones 1-2 instead of 1-6).

I haven't checked recently, but last time I looked, the break-even for a zone 1-2 Mobilis was five rides. So, if you're zipping around, it's worth it. In particular, if you're taking the Montmartre funicular, remember that's a separate ticket (no free transfers from the metro).

Is the weekly Navigo Découverte card accepted on the Montmartre funicular or must one also buy a separate ticket?

Yes, the Decouverte card is good on the funicular.

The day pass that would work is the Paris Visite. It is very high priced and usually not worth it. For a one day pass for all 5 zones it costs 25 Euro. This is more than a weekly charge on a Navigo Decouverte which provides the same benefit. This is just not cost effective. If you arrive Monday-Thurs, then actually getting the ND might be the best bet -- it would cover any travel you would be doing and while pricey for two days, it would cover airport and all local travel and you would have it for your next trip.

A Mobilis day pass for just Paris costs about 7.50 which might be worth your while if you plan to use the metro a lot. We just spent 6 weeks in Paris and I think the most I used the metro in one day was 4 times -- still not cost effective for a Mobilis.

The ticket from CDG to Paris is 10.30 and will take you to any destination in Paris including the transfer to the metro (but not buses or trams). After that you could get a carnet of ordinary t+ tickets for use on the metro wherever it goes and the RER within Paris. It also is good for the funicular, the buses, and the trams. You can transfer from tram to bus and metro to RER but not from trains to bus/trams and vice versa. You would probably not need more than one carnet for your two day trip. If there is more than one of you, you can share the tickets in the carnet and get another if needed. My husband and I shared one for the last 5 days of our trip when our ND monthly card ran out. But you might need more as you would be traveling around to tourist sites which we were not.

Does the Paris RER/Metro subway system have a day pass

Yes, there are a number of day passes, i.e. the Mobilis, zone 1 to 5 Paris Visite, ticket Jeune Weekend, and the Navigo Jour. Of these, only the zone 1 to 5 Paris Visite and the Navigo Jour are valid for travel to/from the airports (the Navigo Jour is not valid on the OrlyVal).

All the websites that I've looked at are not clear on this point

There is only one website with information you can trust 100% and that is the RATP´s own website:

https://www.ratp.fr/en/

A two day, zone 1 to 5 Paris Visite Pass is 38.35€.

The zone 1 to 5 Navigo Jour is 17.80€ per day plus you must have a Navigo Découverte card costing 5€, to which you must attach a photo of yourself. If you do not have an ND card, two days will cost 40.60€ or 17.80€ + 17.80€ + 5€.

All of these passes are valid on the RER, métro, bus, tramway, or funicular up until midnight of their final day of validity.

However, if you arrive on any given Monday through Thursday, you can purchase a zone 1-5 Navigo fare for 22.80€ which will be valid until the following Sunday night at midnight. You must have a Navigo or a Navigo Découverte card onto which the 22.80€ fare is loaded.

If your days of travel qualify, the last option will be the cheapest option.

Excellent! I'm loving that card even more. Thanks CJean!

Thanks to everyone for answering my question. It seems that the Mobilus pass will not work for me since I'll need to get into Paris from CDG. From what I've read, it seems that the best option would be to buy a single one way ticket on the RER into Paris and then get a carnet for the rest of my two days.

One last question from me. Will the one way RER ticket I purchase at CDG allow me to transfer to the Metro when I connect to a metro line after I get into Paris? Or will I need to use one of the tickets on my carnet when I get off the RER in central Paris to hop onto a metro train? It seems like the RER ticket should get me to the metro stop closest to my B&B, but I just wanted to check.

Thanks again everyone.

Yes, as long as you do not exit the transportation network while you are connecting to the métro. Keep your ticket until your final exit at your destination.

Be careful with the word carnet, there is no ticket by that name and if you use the English language kiosks to purchase tickets, you will never see the word carnet. What you are asking about is the Ticket t+ at 1.90€ each or sold in booklets of 10 for 14.90€.

Thanks Tocard, I appreciate your help. Yes, I know that the word carnet is not a synonym for "ticket"! I did not use the right words to describe what I wanted to say but your point is well taken. Thanks again.
