Hello...my friend and I (two senior women) will be staying in Amboise in September for 5 days. We want to visit several chateaux (Chambord, Chenonceau, Villandry, Azay le Rideau, Amboise, and maybe one other). We may not be able to visit all but here are a couple of questions: What is the "best" combination ticket and where to buy? Also, which chateaux provide tours or audio guides in English? Insights and opinions are very welcome! Thanks in advance.
Sheila
If you plan to see several of the big Loire sites, it is usually easier to buy tickets individually online rather than look for a single combo pass. Most châteaux in that area do not share one universal ticket, and advance online purchase lets you skip queues and choose your entry time.
Chambord, Chenonceau, Azay le Rideau, and Amboise all offer very good English audio guides included or available for a small extra fee. Villandry is more garden focused, but it also has English materials and guide options. English support is very normal there because a large share of visitors are international.
Try to group visits geographically to avoid too much driving. For example, do Amboise and Chenonceau on the same day, then Chambord on another, and pair Azay le Rideau with Villandry since they are close together. With five days you can move at a relaxed pace and still see a lot without rushing.
Book directly through each château’s official website. It is usually the same price as third party sellers and much simpler if you need to adjust plans.
Thanks so much for your response! Makes things a little clearer...It's easy to get sucked in to buying combo tickets when, apparently they are not needed.
