We are in Colmar for 3 days in late August and won't have a car so would like to do a day tour through one of the private companies to explore some of the smaller villages, wineries, etc. Any input on some of these and preferred tour would be great. Thank you.

We just returned from Colmar in June and went on a full-day Colmar-based wine tour booked through Ophorus. We rode in a van with another couple (whom we didn't know beforehand but got along well with) and visited 3 wineries in three different villages (eating lunch on our own in the last village). The villages you visit would depend on which wineries they can schedule tastings with on that day, so it will vary. We did this tour on one of our first days in Colmar--we too had no car--so we could go to different places on our own. After that, we used the bus and a bike rental to see other villages that weren't on the tour. Our guide was very nice, and the van was clean and comfortable. It worked out well for us. Rick Steve's guide says any of the larger tour groups are good bets.
