Cognac tours

Has anyone done a cognac tour in Cognac with tasting, of course? There appears to be several distilleries in that area, any comments as to the best one? I think we would like an experience that would last a couple of hrs or so, not a full day.
Also, would you recommend sleeping in Cognac itself or would Angouleme be a better choice? We will be coming from Sarlat, then be on our way to Oradour-sur-Glane....and lastly....on our way to Chenonceaux.
Thanks

I can’t speak to any cognac tours but I spent a day in Angouleme and loved it! The architecture there is crazy, fanstastic, whimsical…there’s so many huge buildings of varied styles…walking around felt a little like a Disney set. We only went to Angouleme to catch a cab ride to Oradour sur Glane, but were so happy we went. It was a nice place to spend a few hours after Oradour sur Glane - which is absolutely worth the drive - you won’t forget walking around that Oradour sur Glane. It’s truly frozen in time.

A member of my family is a tour guide in the Martell cognac distilleries in Cognac. There are 3 types of tours offered.
I've never been there, so I couldn't guarantee it's the best, but here's the website:
