Code Orange Heat in Provence

Heading to Provence in 2 weeks with my daughter for a 10 day trip in the Luberon to visit the markets. How is the weather/heat treating current visitors? As a southerner accustomed to heat and humidity, I am hoping that the temps are no worse than what we live with. However, as AC is not as prevalent overseas and we have 6 nights of accommodations without AC, (I did not make that selection), I am hoping for a break in the current code orange for the area. Any suggestions/encouragement for dealing with the high temps? Fingers are crossed for a break in the current weather pattern for everyone's sake.

What are your strategies for humidity? That’s something I don’t deal with much at home.

As for heat, will you have a car with AC at any point? Without AC, fans are your best option, along with taking showers, a notch or two cooler than usual.

Outside, have a hat with a wide brim. Dine in the shade. Whatever else the situation, at least you’re in Provence!

The temperature is breaking around Thursday of this week, going from 90s to 80 with much-needed rain. The forecast goes out only two weeks, so just cross your fingers that this holds. Bring a small umbrella.

How are we dealing? We're pretty tired of it since we're now in the 3rd month. It's not nearly as humid as the American south, but we live our lives outside and this isn't conducive. And as you said, we air condition lightly. You will never need a sweater in an air conditioned building.

Ask your hotel for a lower level room as it will be cooler; don't ever get a room on the top floor. Avoid rooms facing south as the buildings' walls absorb the heat from direct sunlight. Keep the blackout curtains or shutters closed during the day. Ask for a fan. Sleep with only a sheet, of course. Taking a cover off a duvet is yucky to me; just ask for a clean sheet or duvet cover if what they've put on the bed is too hot for you.

I always have a fan in my purse and an atomizer bottle of water to spray on my face and neck. Wear loose-fitting buttoned short-sleeve shirts, not clingy polos. Wear bermudas. I wear a lot of linen.

But I have a feeling it's going to be cooler in two weeks.

Thanks for the tips...will follow all instructions! Yes, we have a car with AC but of course will be outside most of the time!

Gallivant gal, I'm adding that a shift is being forecast by multiple sources based on the ocean currents. It's quite likely to be different two weeks from now. Keep your eyes on the forecasts from Méteo France. Here is the page that includes 7-day and 15-day forecasts
