Suddenly find ourselves happily booked for Loire to South of France Tour starting May 28, as most of our travels have been in september some advice on what people have found the weather to be like this time of year. we are generally good carry on packers but a wee bit of advice is always welcome, do I ditch the sandals for this trip or will I use them?light clothing or layers?

Hi there!

I noticed there have not been any responses to your post so thought I’d share what we are doing to prepare for packing for our April 23rd departure for the Loire Valley and the Dordogne. I have been googling You Tube videos of the markets in villages in the areas we plan to visit ( Sarlat in the Dordogne for example ) and you might try Aix en Provence for the South.

Then I look for a video that has been taken during the month of our travel and observe what everyone is wearing.

We have traveled through the South of France before during September and it can get quite warm.

Layers are always a good choice and as for your sandals, IMO I would ditch them and buy there if you are really missing them.

The Accuweather website will provide a long range forecast and then check the weather for areas you plan to visit a week out.

Enjoy your trip!

My favorite layers for that area last year in May were two light jackets and two scarves that I traded off with, as well as a light rain jacket which I needed for a few days. I bought a hat and breezy blouse at a street market as it got warmer in the south. I brought sandals but mostly wore my sturdy walking shoes. Have a wonderful time!

I took that tour last year, though my departure was about 3 weeks later than yours. It was 100 when we arrived in Paris, though our weather was mostly 60s-80s. We had some cooler, rainy weather at the start of the tour after the initial heatwave. I was glad I packed my Columbia rain jacket, but also wore my sandals a lot. Let me know if you want to see my packing list, as it’s easy to share since I typed it up. Enjoy your tour! I absolutely loved it.
