This will be our first trip to France and I wanted to see these cliffs. Is it worth it and if so how much time should be spent here? I was thinking of landing in Paris and going to Giverny, then to Rouen to sleep, then seeing these cliffs before arriving in Honfluer. We will be renting a car. Thanks.
My family spent a wonderful afternoon in Etretat in early July 2011. We combined the trip to Etretat, which was my son's must see in France with a trip to Giverny (my daughter's must see) and the D-Day beaches (husband's must see) into a multiple day trip from Paris. The cliffs are beautiful and we spent the afternoon walking along the paths, eating in an outdoor cafe, watching my son ride on the carousel, etc. All in all, it was a great "super chill" (as my daughter would say) afternoon that we all loved. In fact, our holiday card pictures that year were from Etretat and Giverny. I love gardens and flowers and we spent almost an entire day at Giverny, including lunch at Restaurant Baudy. Are you planning to rent the car immediately upon arriving and will you be on a transAtlantic flight? If the answer to both questions is yes, have you considered the effect of jet lag on the ability to do over three hours of driving in one day. After a bad experience driving right after flying to France from the US, we now do not drive at all on arrival day, but YMMV. If you are spending a couple of days in Paris and then renting the car, it is an easy approximately 90-minute drive to Giverny and then another easy hour or so drive to Rouen from Giverny.
Certainly worth to see, some nice country side and little ports there too, but check out first where they are.
Yes, we will be coming direct flight from Salt Lake City to Paris. Maybe we will spend a few days in Paris before doing the trip? Thanks for the input, I think we will stop there, it sounds relaxing. Thanks!
