Citadines montmarte hotel in a good location & safe?

Thinking about staying at Citadines Montmarte in July. Family of 4, with 2 teenagers. Want to know if area is safe & close enough to sites.

Well, its right behind the Moulin Rouge. That's a site.

Yes and yes. Right beside Cemetiere Montmartre. 15 minute walk to Sacre Coeur 20 minutes to Galeries Lafayette. 10 to 15 minutes by metro to many sites on the Right Bank. So close enough, I'd say.

I've stayed in and love Citadines, but not the Montmarte one. Montmarte is not that close to tourist sites, except Sacre Coeur. To get to places like the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower, it will be a long walk or at least one Metro line change. Is there a reason why you want to stay in the Montmarte one?

I am working with a travel agent who recommended this hotel. There are 4 of us traveling and he said a family room would be less expensive. Once I got the rick steves book I realized this would be far from sights. He is looking for other options. I provided a list from the book but he says he can't book those.

Tell you travel agent to look at Citadines St Germain des Pres or Bastille-Marais. They will be more money, but a little closer to the action.

Go onto the Citadines St Germain de Pres website and sign up to become an Ascott member - free membership. You can then use their special deals to book your own room for cheaper. I got a one bedroom apt. this fall for 176 Euro/night.

The Travel Agent can't book those hotels because they don't give him a commission.

You can book them yourselves.

Yes, you don't need a travel agent to book a Paris hotel. You can do it online via the hotel's website, or you can e-mail the hotel directly (a simple e-mail in English works fine).

Are you planning on using the kitchenette facilities in the Citadines or are you looking for the larger space for four. A family room can be less expensive than two doubles but that is not always the case and a family room will be one bathroom for four people. I grew up in a house with 5 and often 6 people sharing one bathroom but even so I much prefer the additional bathrooms that two rooms provide. I am willing to bet that your travel agent has a very short list of hotels and you would get much better and more varied suggestions here or on TripAdvisor if you provided your nightly budget and travel dates. For example, right now the rate at the Citadines for a random day in May is 305€ per night if you have a cancelable reservation. You could get a quad or two doubles for that price at Hotel Excelsior Latin which is in a much better location for a first time visitor (which I am assuming that you are), IMO and I am one who likes Montmartre.
