Has anyone any experience with the cider route and/or cheese route in Normandy? They are in the same area and I'm wondering if I can do both in one day. Thanks for any help. sue
We drove along parts of the cider route and even had lunch featuring cider and Camembert at an orchard. The Camembert route is in the same region but a little south of the cider region which is between Caen and
Lisieux. Both are about a bucolic 35km drive so perhaps both could be done in a day depending on how many stops you make.
Cows and apples are essential to Normandy, plus various types of crepes that may involve cheese and cooked apples, possibly accompanied by cider and chased by a shot of calvados, the apple brandy. So to prepare, research the local enthusiasm for "le trou Normand": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvados#Tasting But don't indulge if you are driving around cheesemakers and cider mills, or anywhere else.
