Churchill Hotel Bayeux- parking?

I have 2 options for our 2 night stay in Bayeux. 1 is Churchill Hotel (site says parking adjacent for a fee), the other is Hotel le Bayeux (which has onsite parking for a small fee).

We will be picking up our car at Orly and heading to Bayeux on a Friday. Will need parking from arrival Friday noon? til Sun am as we are taking a guided tour of the Normandy sites.

I have searched thru forum and TA and still not clear on what sort of parking we can expect at/near Churchill Hotel. It sounds like it is pay parking by the hour- and free at night- but we will need to leave our car all day and will not be able to pay the meter.

Can anyone clarify how parking at/near Churchill Hotel works?

Thanks

Hi Christine
I've stayed at both hotels and been pleased with them both. Hotel Bayeux has the advantage of the onsite parking and as I recall it's a bit less expensive. The Churchill has the advantage of being right at the meeting place for most of the tours. You can contact them to confirm but I seem to recall the parking lot near the Churchill having a kiosk where you might be able to prepay for the day. There is a free parking they directed me to about a ten minute walk from the hotel. Bayeux is a nice town and I can recommend that you find time to also see the tapestry and the cathedral. Enjoy.

If you are not committed to either of those hotels, then I would suggest a look at Hotel Particulier Poppa. We had a beautiful, large room there and a parking spot was included at no additional fee. The hotel is within walking distance to everything in Bayeux.

We stayed at Hôtel d'Argouges - across the street from a good size city parking lot. It is only a couple blocks from the Churchill. At the Hôtel d'Argouges there is a large parking area for guests.
I don't know if the large public parking lot I mention above charges a fee. Maybe the Churchill Hotel can provide info.

Bayeux is a nice small walkable town. We took the train and walked from the station to d'Argouges in just a few minutes (with out bags)

The Hotel d'Argouges is about a mile from the railroad station, according to Google Maps. That's not unusual in Bayeux, where the train station is on the edge of town. If you're close to the train station, you won't be close to the tour pick-up point or many (any?) restaurants.

Thanks Gerard
You are right- the Churchill is slightly more expensive but does offer more amenities. We had originally planned to pick up car in Bayeux after our visit there so I did not take parking into consideration when looking for hotel. We have since decided to get car at Orly which should guarantee we get an automatic, and surprisingly the rates for pickup at Orly were a lot less than picking up in Bayeux so the extra days when car is basically parked won't break the budget.

I got a response from Hotel Churchill that tells me the parking lot next to them has a long term meter now, also free car park 10 min walk. Sounds fine so I am leaning towards Churchill.
We do plan to visit Tapestry on arrival and attend mass at cathedral on Sun am.

Also interested in the lace museum/workshop that Rick mentions in his book-
has anyone been there?

TravelBug79, Francis- thanks for the recommendations- both places look lovely but unfortunately completely booked for our dates!
