Christmas markets in Strasbourg

Hi,
I am planning a trip to Strasbourg at the end of the month for a few days for the Christmas markets and activities. This is a last minute trip (booked flights last night!) and I’m a bit out of practice as it’s been years since I’ve been to Europe. Any recommendations for must-see, do or eat are appreciated!
I have a hotel booked at the moment, but might make a switch, so open to any thoughts about that as well.
Thanks!

My best two meals were at Chez Yvonne - they only do 2 dinner services so reservations are a must. Cuisine alsacienne at its best.
Edit: Chez Yvonne doesn't take reservations during the Christmas market. First come, first serve...

Second best meal was The Piano Grill - French cuisine and the best steak I've ever had.

Also, to the left of the Cathedrale is Bistro et Chocolat. Go there for a snack. They have several types of hot chocolate that are worth a taste.

For a unique Alsatian treat, try Porcus, 6 Pl. du Temple Neuf. It specializes in charcuterie and sausages. The ground floor is a market and the restaurant is one flight up. Reservations are necessary.

A short walk from the Cathedral on Quai Saint Nicolas is family owned Restaurant au Pont Corbeau for excellent Choucroute Garnie and other Alsatian specialties made with local ingredients in a cozy riverside restaurant.

Stop in to the Tourist Info center next to the Cathedral. They have an audio tour of the city and offer a Museum/Attraction pass that costs a few €€€ but saves on entrance fees.

Strasbourg Christmas markets are supposedly the oldest in Europe going back to the 1400s (I think). It is massive with several specialized market scattered through out Strasbourg beside the main markets around the cathedral. It was very festive when we were there five years ago.

If you are traveling to Strasbourg by train from Paris, be sure to buy your train tickets as soon as you can !

(Maybe you have a different routing through Frankfurt and this doesn't apply to you )

Anyway have a wonderful time, Strasbourg is really magical with the Christmas markets

Since you are going to Strasbourg for the Christmas market, I would suggest heading over the German border for a quick trip to Gengenbach, which is about 35-40 minutes by train from Strasbourg, and visiting this adorable and charming town. Gengenbach not only has a wonderful Christmas market, but it also has the world's largest Advent calendar displayed on its town hall. And the town itself is just gorgeous, with half-timbered houses and lots of wonderful cafes and restaurants. It would be well worth a day trip there to see it at Christmas time, and it's so easy to get there by train and back.

Here's a snip from another thread that references the Gengenbach Christmas market that you might find useful:

I really liked Gengenbach, Germany. Small town and small [Christmas] market. But the town is ridiculously cute. We were there around 4:30 on a weekday and it wasn’t crowded. The stalls are along a wide street, and all around the central square. So they are not crowded together as in some places with tons of stalls. There were unique items for sale - both food and crafts. The main difference at this market was the space and lack of crowds, in comparison to places like Strasbourg which was packed shoulder-to-shoulder in the evenings. But the buildings were just as charming. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/best-small-town-christmas-market
