Christmas Markets in Alsace region

We will be visiting our son and his family in Luxembourg in December. My husband and I plan to take a 5 day trip to the Alsace region. We are thinking of spending 3 days in Colmar and also visiting two or 3 of the small towns nearby. I have been to Colmar in the spring, but my husband has never been to that region. We have never been to Strasbourg and I have not stayed in any of the small towns in that region.
Also, we are interested in museums, art, history, wine tasting, etc., and not just Christmas Markets. Any advice?

I wasn't as taken with Strasbourg or Colmar as most others seem to be, but I really liked the Museum of Alsatian Life in Strasbourg.

Here is a link to many of the Christmas Markets. I went on a gate 1 tour a few years ago and we saw several of them. Vienna was my favorite....

In Colmar be sure to visit the Unterlinden Museum. The Bartholdi Museum is also interesting. If you want to cross the border into Germany, Gengenbach has the world’s largest advent calendar ( the rathaus ) and the excellent Narrenmuseum ( Fastnacht costumes )
